About Neston in Cheshire

Neston is a town in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It is situated on the Neston Park estate, on the Wirral Peninsula, close to the border with Wales. The town has a population of 5,064, according to the 2011 census.

Neston was formerly a market town and was granted a charter for a market in 1246. It was also granted a charter for a fair in 1292. The market and fair were held in the Market Square which is now part of the High Street. The market square had a cross in the centre which was replaced by a fountain in 1869. The fountain was moved to its current location in 2008.

Neston is twinned with the French town of Saint-Jean-de-Bournay.
