About Milngavie in Lanarkshire

Milngavie is a town in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is located on the Allander Water, 6 miles (10 km) north of Glasgow city centre. The town is served by Milngavie railway station, on the Glasgow suburban network.

The name "Milngavie" comes from the Gaelic words mill meaning "mill" or "place of grinding", and gabhaidh meaning "takes". The name therefore means "the mill on the water".
