About Saxilby in Lincolnshire

Saxilby is a town in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The town is on the River Witham, about 10 miles (16 km) north-east of the city of Lincoln. It had a population of 3,646 at the 2011 census.

Saxilby was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, when it was called "Sachelbe". The name "Saxilby" is thought to mean "Saxon village or settlement", from the Old English "seax" meaning "Saxon" and "by" meaning "village or settlement".

The parish church of St. Botolph dates from the 13th century and is a grade I listed building. The village has a primary school, Saxilby Church of England Primary School, which was built in 1854.

The village is home to Saxilby Athletic F.C., who play in the Lincolnshire League.

Saxilby has a number of amenities including a Co-op supermarket, a fish and chip shop, a Chinese takeaway, an Indian restaurant, a hairdresser, a pharmacy and a post office. There is also a doctors surgery and a dental surgery in the village.
