About Raglan in Monmouthshire
Raglan is a town in Monmouthshire, Wales, with a population of 1,741. It is located 10 miles (16 km) north of Newport, on the River Usk. The town is twinned with L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in France.
Raglan Castle is a late medieval castle located just outside the town. It was built by William ap Thomas in 1435 and was the last privately owned castle in England or Wales, until it was sold to the state in 1946.
The town has a number of independent shops, as well as a monthly farmers' market. There are also several pubs and restaurants, including the Castle Inn which is located within the grounds of Raglan Castle.
Raglan is home to a number of annual events, including the Raglan Music Festival and the Raglan Food Festival.
