About Neath Port Talbot
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is the local authority of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. The current leader is Cllr. Rob Jones.
The county borough borders the city of Swansea to the south and Carmarthenshire to the west. To the north is the Brecon Beacons National Park, while the eastern boundary follows the River Neath. The area includes the towns of Neath, Port Talbot, Pontardawe and Resolven, as well as a number of villages. The population of the county borough is 139,000 (2011).
The area has a long history, with human settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. The Romans also had a presence in the area, and there are a number of Roman ruins still visible today. The area was later settled by the Normans, and Neath Castle was built in 1221.
The industrial revolution brought great changes to the area, with coal mining and steel production becoming major industries. The town of Port Talbot was developed to house workers for the new industries. The area continued to prosper in the 20th century, but the decline of traditional industries in recent years has led to economic problems.
Despite these challenges, Neath Port Talbot is still a place with much to offer. The county borough has some beautiful countryside, including the Brecon Beacons National Park. There are also a number of interesting towns and villages, such as Pontardawe and Resolven. The area also has a rich cultural heritage, with a number of museums and galleries.
