About Newport in Pembrokeshire

Newport is a small town in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a population of just over 3,000 people. It is located on the River Cleddau, just upstream from its estuary with the Bristol Channel. Newport has a long history dating back to the Roman era, when it was known as Noviomagus. It later became an important market town in medieval times, and was the site of a castle built by Henry II in 1171. Today, Newport is a popular tourist destination, with its quaint streets and buildings, and its proximity to the coast. There are a number of shops and restaurants in the town centre, as well as a number of historic sites to visit.
