About Alyth in Perth and Kinross
Alyth is a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is located on the River Tay, 10 miles (16 km) north of Perth. The town has a population of 3,000.
Alyth was first settled in the 12th century. The town grew up around the Alyth Hillfort, which was built by the Picts. In the 13th century, the town was granted a charter by King Robert the Bruce. The charter allowed for a weekly market and a yearly fair.
Alyth was an important stop on the Perth to Dundee road. In 1745, the Battle of Culloden was fought nearby. Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite army camped at Alyth before the battle.
Today, Alyth is a thriving community with a variety of shops and businesses. The town is home to several primary schools and a secondary school. There are also several churches, a golf course, and a swimming pool.
