About Salisbury in Wiltshire
Salisbury is a historic town in Wiltshire, England, located at the confluence of the rivers Avon and Wylye. The town is home to Salisbury Cathedral, the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom. The city has a long and rich history dating back to the Iron Age, and has been a major settlement since the Roman period. Salisbury was the site of the first ever recorded use of a mechanical clock in England, in 1284.
The town is situated in a predominantly rural area, with farmland to the north and west of the town. The Avon valley to the south of the town is home to a number of important wildlife sites, including the River Avon Trail and Salisbury Plain. The town is also home to a number of museums and art galleries, as well as a number of schools and colleges.
